Eating carrots is good for your health and for your complexion. It’s well known, but what’s less widely recognized is that this delicious vegetable also works wonders in cosmetics! When macerated, they yield an oil famed for its “healthy glow” and friendly to all skin types. No time to lose: start making your carrot macerate today.
Rich in vitamins, carrots contain especially a notable amount of bêta-carotène or provitamine A. This natural orange pigment — the one that gives carrots and other fruits and vegetables their yellow or orange color — is also abundant in the leaves of dandelion and mustard, and it lends the skin a beautiful tan glow, tonus, and elasticity. Once in the human body, beta-carotene is converted into vitamin A, which, as we know, is the source of numerous benefits for the skin as well as for health in general.
Why and how to make your own carrot macerate?
A quick explanation is in order, because carrots don’t actually contain oil. It’s really a carrot maceration in a vegetable oil. The resulting preparation is packed with virtues, and the recipe is as simple as can be. Plus, it gives a healthy glow!
The oil macerate tightens pores and rebalance the skin’s oiliness. It hydrates and restores vitality to dry skin. Even dull or fatigued complexions will regain their tone.
Unequaled for preserving the skin’s suppleness and elasticity as well as protecting it against premature aging, carrot oil also has repairing properties. And don’t forget it come summertime: it provides a natural, radiant tan, offers partial protection for the skin, and supports tanning. After sun exposure, it helps regenerate the epidermis, soothes and softens the skin.
The Carrot Oil Recipe
Additionally, it’s extremely simple to make your own macerate at home; you just need a little patience:
- Slice two large organic carrots into thin rounds after peeling.
- Let them air-dry for a full day.
- Cover them with sunflower oil, sesame oil, or even olive oil (the latter is somewhat heavier).
- Let it rest for three weeks, stirring from time to time.
- Add two more carrots to the maceration and wait another three weeks.
- Strain and your oil is ready.
Store the preparation away from heat and light, and you can enjoy it for several months.

A vegetable known for strengthening the body’s natural defenses and stimulating children’s growth, carrots are also excellent for vision.
In addition to its regulating action on digestive functions, it is diuretic, thus recommended for rheumatism, gout, and eczema.
On the beauty front, it promotes the renewal of skin cells. Even its fresh pulp is highly beneficial for the skin, whether as a poultice to soothe pain from burns, or as a refreshing and rejuvenating mask for the face.
