Already in ancient times, women practiced the art of pairing oils and herbs to preserve the beauty of their skin. Following in their footsteps, prepare your own homemade skincare products to protect your face from both time and the chill of winter.
At the heart of many beauty secrets since time immemorial, vegetable oils penetrate deeply into the skin and nourish it, while bringing their specific properties. They are wonderfully softening, smoothing, toning, or regenerating, rich in unsaturated fatty acids. They offer an undeniable anti-aging effect that supports your winter beauty.
Argan oil, apricot kernel oil, jojoba oil—each wonderful—or the relatively prized borage oil, reserved for dry or devitalized skin, are highly valued in cosmetics. A simple sweet almond oil already provides solid overnight care for fragile skin, and many other vegetable oils also suit very well, provided they are of excellent quality.

What to say, then, when these care oils are also dressed up with a few drops of essential oils? Not just any, nor used haphazardly, of course. The essence of the plant from which they are derived, essential oils are precious allies for healing and revitalizing, but also for stimulating and beautifying the skin.
While it is out of the question to use them recklessly, essential oils readily lend themselves to the preparation of masks and other potions with almost magical effects. Do you doubt it? Give it a try… Here is a selection, not exhaustive, but targeted, of a few of them to delight your skin right now. The essential oil of geranium, whether rosat or bourbon, is likewise bursting with qualities: anti-infectious, astringent, healing, toning; it hydrates, soothes, purifies, and balances all skin types, dry or oily. A “must”!
As for the essential oil of neroli (orange blossom), derived from the leaves of the bitter orange tree, it’s the ally of oily skin, but also, thanks to its regenerative and anti-wrinkle properties, of dull, mature, or tired skin.
The essential oil of ylang-ylang, whose heady scent some love or hate, possesses moisturizing, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and regenerating properties that make it a powerful ally for the skin, but also for hair and nails.
Winter Beauty Essentials: Day and Night
Now it’s your turn. During the cold months, dry-prone skin, as well as tired skin, are even more vulnerable to the cold than others. Give them this little feast:
- Add 20 drops of rose geranium essential oil and 10 drops of lemon essence to 50 ml of a vegetable oil, for example sweet almond oil.
- Apply morning and night to the face and hands, to protect them from the cold.

Excellent as well, especially for dry skin in particular and all skin types that crave moisture:
- Blend 30 drops of carrot essential oil with 15 drops of orange essence into 150 ml of sesame oil.
- Apply every evening to perfectly cleansed skin.
And for the Night…
Finally, whatever your skin type, take advantage of the night to nourish it and encourage its regeneration:
- Pour 4 drops of ylang-ylang essential oil and 3 drops of petit grain bigarade essential oil into 25 ml of sweet almond oil, and shake well.
- After removing makeup, massage your face and neck with this oil, letting it penetrate with your fingertips, using circular motions from bottom to top.

The essential oil of ylang-ylang is moisturizing. Petit grain bigarade, purifying, has a mildly tightening effect. Two grand talents when they act in synergy to heal your skin overnight and ensure a relaxed face upon waking (1).

Caring for your skin, your hair, and your body, enjoying the benefits of small lotions to look good and unwind is wonderful. With natural products, it’s even better!
