The warmer days are on the horizon, spring is just around the corner, and a renewed breeze is sweeping through the house. As each year, it’s the time to get some air in, to air out your home, and to dive into the grand ritual cleaning: good old spring cleaning.
A Thorough Spring Cleaning for a Sparkling Home!
At the tail end of winter and into spring, we sometimes still wonder what to do about the flu to disinfect our home. It’s also the famous spring cleaning that takes hold when the sun starts to shine but it’s still a bit cool or we can’t go out. You’ve guessed it—the perfect moment to ask yourself how to clean a door handle. Here are our latest tips before you get to work and, to brighten your mood, a bit of music.
For an effective spring clean, follow our housekeeping tips guide. Yet there are often small things that people overlook which can make a real difference. Hence this new guide to make sure you don’t miss a thing.
Take Care of the Doormat
The doormat is the first line of defense against dirt, yet it’s sometimes far from clean. Instead of a quick vacuum, take advantage of spring cleaning to give it a thorough cleanse. Shake it out, beat it, vacuum it, air it out, wash it thoroughly and do it without mercy: it’s for its own good!
Clean Hidden or Overlooked Corners
Here you go: after the first hour of tidying, you may think the house is already cleaner. Not so fast—there are forgotten spaces that shouldn’t be neglected, and it won’t necessarily require a lot of physical effort (okay, maybe a little)!
If the walls and the type of wallpaper permit, wash them carefully with a sponge and dish soap, or a sponge-broom for harder-to-reach areas. Dry everything with a clean cloth. If the surfaces are delicate, dust them gently.

We also take the opportunity to go under the big furniture, and we think about the cabinets, especially the baseboards, interior spaces, and the tops of cupboards. We’ll decide what to do with what’s stored there (think thrift and donation).
Spring Cleaning: Clean Everything Naturally
Now’s the moment to tackle every corner of the house…
Clean the Coils of Your Refrigerator
A refrigerator is a big cold-storage cabinet. To do this, a fluid circulates through tubes in coils inside and behind the fridge. Since you’re cleaning the interior, take the opportunity to move the fridge slightly to clean the back, and, while you’re at it, the exposed floor behind it.
Clean Your Pets’ Living Space
Do you have pets? They’ve got their stuff too, and even if you clean them regularly, keep them in mind during spring cleaning.

As with every week, clean the cage, the litter box, and/or the animal’s enclosure, but extend the cleaning to the travel cage, toys, harnesses, beds, blankets… Of course, as usual, use a non-toxic cleaner. Toys that are no longer used can also be donated to an animal shelter.
Also inspect the animal’s medical kit and the condition of the yard and the garden if you have them, to ensure nothing dangerous is lying around. It’s a great time to treat your pet for fleas and other parasites.
Don’t Forget the Light Fixtures
They’re often up on the ceiling or in hard-to-reach spots, but they are regularly forgotten. Use an all-purpose cleaner and a microfiber cloth for this task.

To make them shine, the same trick as for the windows: white vinegar is ideal!
Clean the Upholstered Furniture
Dust, cosmetics, body oils, germs: upholstered furniture wears down quickly and isn’t very clean after winter. You can vacuum them carefully, but you can also deep-clean them with a carpet-cleaning machine. You might borrow one if you don’t already have one. Be mindful of delicate furniture and fabrics.
Take Care of the Floor Naturally
Wooden furniture and hardwood floors need specific cleaning and occasional restoration. Here’s the guide:
