Commercial cleaning products are all packed with substances not great for health or for the environment. Fortunately, most of the time, natural alternatives exist.
You already know well the uses of white vinegar, baking soda, or used coffee grounds. All of them work little miracles at home or in the garden. Another everyday product that we don’t always expect can nevertheless prove very useful and effective for maintaining things or getting rid of nasty stains: the egg! Learn how and what to clean with eggs.
How to Clean with Egg White?
Egg white is unrivaled for cleaning, reviving, and brightening! Use it on wooden furniture, PVC, and even leather!
Removing a Wool Garment Stain
Egg white can lift stains from your wool garments, gently. Simply apply egg white directly onto the stain and let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinse with clear, cold water. Wash your garment as usual, by hand or on a wool cycle in the machine.
Cleaning Frying Oil
A practical, waste-reducing trick for cleaning frying oil: while the oil is still hot, dip in the white of an egg. As it cooks, it will rise to the surface, carrying away impurities. You’ll just skim them off with a slotted spoon.
Polishing a PVC Patio Set
To restore shine to aged PVC furniture: whip egg whites into stiff peaks and spread them in a thin layer over the furniture. Let dry. Buff with a soft cloth. They’ll regain their glow!

The same method will also make your lacquered shoes or bags shine!
Shine Wooden Furniture
To restore your dresser’s vintage glow, mix an egg white with a little water, then wipe with a microfiber cloth.
Reviving Gold-Leaf Wood Frames
For art lovers who dread dull gilded wood frames, there is a very effective egg-white-based recipe.
After you’ve thoroughly dusted the frame, apply with a brush a mixture of egg whites whipped into stiff peaks combined with a tablespoon of hot vinegar. Rinse gradually with a damp cloth and wipe dry.
Reviving Leather
Bags, belts, and other leather accessories wear out over time. It’s only natural since leather is an organic material.

To refresh and clean a leather handbag, start by gently rubbing it with a cloth dampened with vinegar-water and dry with a soft cloth. Then rub the leather with a solution containing lightly beaten egg white (no need for the whites to be stiff) and a tablespoon of turpentine essence.
How to Clean with Egg Yolk?
Contrary to what you might expect, the egg yolk, even though it can itself contribute to stubborn stains, will help you remove tea or coffee stains from colored clothing.

Cleaning Tea or Coffee Stains
To do this, beat a yolk and dilute it in warm water (not hot, or the egg might cook). Apply the mixture to the stain and it will vanish.
Shining a Linoleum Floor
If your linoleum floor looks dull, mix two yolks in a liter of water.
